Yesterday was Jamie's special helper day at school.
Basically, the special helper is in charge of the entire class for the entire day. And Jamie was VERY excited about this.
Naturally, though, he kept his cool.
They start out with an adorable prayer and move on to calendar work. Jamie takes his calendar work very seriously, as you can see. Didn't crack a smile. The entire time.
He gets to choose students one by one to be dismissed for craft. Of course, he chose Wyatt first. Then, "That girl." "Now you." "That one can go."
We need to work on names.
Craft time. Adorable toilet paper roll reindeer - he was a pro.
The most important job of all is line leader. See, that kid in the middle wishes he was line leader so bad it looks like he might be sick....
Then they come inside from recess and have prayer before their snack. The special helper gets to use a special microphone and lead the prayer. Ohhhhh my goodness, if that wasn't the cutest thing I've ever heard, I don't know what is..."In the name of the fodder...and son....and holy spirit..."
So cute.
Then came disaster. Jamie decided to bring Danimals yogurt as snack because that's just about the only snack he will eat that is special enough for special helper day. The thing about Danimals is that he only eats strawberry and of course they come in a combo pack. I set the tables up and when they got into the classroom, I quickly guided him to a strawberry seat. He sat down, happy as a clam, then got up to say the prayer. When he was done he went to sit back down.....
....yes, it's true. A little boy in his class sat down in his seat and before anything could be done, he took a drink of that strawberry Danimals.
So maybe special helper day wasn't perfect, but it was pretty close.
