This is Us

I am a 25 year old mama to 4 (yes, FOUR) babies: Maria, Jamie, Alice, and soon-to-be Charlotte. My husband Danny and I are super busy! We spend our days playing dress up, reading, "doing art," laughing, and we definitely watch our fair share of Noggin.

Pancakes for Breakfast

Jamie has been waking up really super early lately. I'm talking....7:00am. I know you are probably laughing because 7 isn't really that early, but this is coming from a kid who used to sleep in until 10 on weekends. Not anymore.

He woke up this morning, went out into the living room and turned on Noggin. After about 30 minutes, he came to wake me up with a very sad, "Mama....I'm hungry...." Obviously, I had to get up and make him some breakfast.

"Mama, can you please make me pancakes?"

Usually when I hear this request, my answer is, "No, bud, that takes too long. How about some cereal." Isn't that mean? But today, there was no excuse, so I said yes.

Then he said something that was both really sad and really sweet.

"Mama, I will help you, that way it won't take too long."

So he helped me...

...and so did this tiny little bug.

But she quickly got bored and when she spotted a chocolate chip muffin on the counter, she let out her dinosaur screech (so I quickly fetched it).

And boy did she enjoy that muffin.

But then abandoned it about 1/2 way through when she heard daddy was awake.

And of course, after about 5 minutes of getting the batter just right, 10 minutes of preheating the pan, putting it in the fridge to cool off, cleaning all the dishes and 3 bites of the cake itself...Jamie is done. And this is why it always takes too long to make him pancakes.

Where was Maria you might wonder? She was in bed. She stayed up puking all night long. She came into our room at about 1:30am complaining of a tummy ache. This is usually what she says when she wants to crawl in, which is every night. So of course, we say, "No, Maria, your tummy will feel better if you go down and go to sleep." But she insisted and since we are total pushovers, we let her in. 5 minutes later, she puked. All over my face. And our bed.

So, Maria and I took a 2:00 am bath, washed our hair, our puke-covered bodies, and then crawled back under the covers that daddy thankfully changed. Well, Maria slept on the floor next to our bed. So mean, I know, but we didn't have enough sheets in case there was another throw-up.

And there was. Times 3.

At first we thought these might be the culprit:

Yep, little white, delicious Donettes that Papa and Lala thought she might want for breakfast this morning. Well that of course couldn't have happened because she ate 3/4 of them on the way home from their house.

But it's not the donettes, it's a little bug she has. She has puked 3 times today as well and is sleeping (and has been for 2 hours). Poor little thing.

Yuck! Once you are done with your crib mattress- or you think it is too soft for your next babe- keep it for a puke mattress. Put down a tarp, yes, a tarp, and then the mattress on top of that. And get a huge bowl at Goodwill that is exclusively for puke. We have also banned vomiting children from our bed for that same reason.

Pancakes freeze- then pop them in the toaster oven. 3 bites. Stinker.
