This is Us

I am a 25 year old mama to 4 (yes, FOUR) babies: Maria, Jamie, Alice, and soon-to-be Charlotte. My husband Danny and I are super busy! We spend our days playing dress up, reading, "doing art," laughing, and we definitely watch our fair share of Noggin.

Meltdowns and Ocean Cups

My Friday has basically been a giant ball of 4 year old meltdowns.

It's hard being sick. But, it's even harder to be a sick 4-year-old. Even harder? Having a fever for 6 days. That is hard. And then everything seems hard. Even when Mama asks you to please put shoes on to go see Lala and Papa.

This is what happens:

(but really...how dare I ask him to get his shoes on???)

The second big meltdown of the day was caused because Daddy had the nerve to actually wash Jamie's favorite water cup. That's right -- Daddy put his cup in the dishwasher...about 2 minutes before Jamie really really needed it for water.

To be fair, it is our best water cup. It's an ocean cup. There is water between 2 panels (panels? I dunno..) and ocean creatures kinda float as you drink your water. Or milk. Or chocolate milk. Or orange juice.

But not today.

Today, the cup was in the dishwasher, which will eventually ruin the cup anyway.

After Jamie threw himself on the ground (literally, face down...I made Dan run to the car to get my camera it was so hilarious, but Jamie had managed to get himself in a sitting position before he could get back), I had enough.

"Okay, well maybe we can make our own ocean cup?"

"YEAH!!"

Okay, well what color cup? We have green or yellow...."

"Yellow!"

I walk into the pantry and find that all the yellow cups are gone. Of course that would happen.

"Uhhh....green. Actually, the ocean is more green than yellow, this will be way better, Jamie."

He bought it.

So we got out a sharpie...

...and we made our own ocean cup.

On a scale of 1 to adorable, how cute is that shark? Like...I want to tattoo that on my arm. It's that cute.

This little concentration face is the best. So is Jamie...he's the best boy. (Even when he does have hard days).

So once we decorated that sea-green cup, the water obviously had to look like ocean water.

There. An ocean cup. Perfect.

That artificial dye probably contributed to the 3 more meltdowns he had today. He talked sassy to Maria and lost his Leapster privileges. Then he took his jacket off 2 seconds after I put it on him....goodbye TV privileges. THEN he crawled back in the bath after I had gotten him out and dried him off. Banished to the basement after dinner.

It's hard being a 4 year old. But thank goodness this 4-year old's temp was 98.7 tonight. My heart is doing a happy dance.

So glad his fever went down. I love ocean cup... if it were me I would have given in and got the damn cup out of the dishwasher for a quick hand wash to make him happy.

I get the tantrums though. Today was supposed to be a fun day for my newly turned 4 year old at Toys R us. She got a birthday crown, balloon, and gift card... she picked out what she wanted and we were almost done when she pushed her brother off of a high display... seriously, she could have killed him. She lost her crown, balloon, toys, gift card, and everything else we could think of... her freedom for the next 5 years... All privileges lost. It is so hard being the bad guy.
