The Skater and His Park

So this isn't a post about the kids (well, it kinda is, but not really...)

Mostly, this is about Dan and how amazing he is.

Really, he is.

I cannot even begin to count the hours he has spent planning, raising money, begging people for money, attending meetings, trying to get people to come to meetings, etc....all for the new skatepark.

I met Danny when I was 16 and started dating him, like, 2 weeks after that. (What can I say, it was pretty much love at first sight....okay, maybe not at first sight, maybe I just thought skater boys were totally cool, and Dan was the prettiest by far...and the nicest....) From that time until now, he has worked so hard at getting a nice park in Lewiston or Clarkston.

I remember actually going door to door with him asking for money. I was that annoying 17 year old girlfriend who, since I was dating a skateboarder, went out and bought a whole new "skater" wardrobe. Hilarious. And now that I think about it, super embarrassing....

...but I'm pretty sure I solicited at least, like, $20 from that door to door adventure.

But anyway, the point is, he has done everything from organize skateboard competitions, organizing meetings, attend city council meetings, meet with city officials and people in charge, and has definitely had to try and change the minds of so many people who think skateboarding is horrible and that skateboarders are all punks.

Danny is totally not a punk.

And all of his hard work (and the hard work of lots of other skaters) has finally paid off, and here is Danny, skating Lewiston's new skatepark.

It's not finished yet, it still has a ways to go, but he's been able to try it out a few times.

Oooooh it makes me so happy to see him so happy!

And hooray for a great place for our kids to skate....soon!
