This is Us

I am a 25 year old mama to 4 (yes, FOUR) babies: Maria, Jamie, Alice, and soon-to-be Charlotte. My husband Danny and I are super busy! We spend our days playing dress up, reading, "doing art," laughing, and we definitely watch our fair share of Noggin.

F*O*U*R year well visit

Today was Jamie's 4 year old well-baby visit.

Yes, he turned 4 a month and 1/2 ago. I am not a big fan of the medical center where our pediatrician is.

But I love our pediatrician.

Anyway, today was his well-baby visit. So, he got to skip school

But the girls still had to go, of course.

And Alice chose, as she does more often than not these days, her neon green crocs. Ah, she loves them. And while I think maybe the color is a little loud, and crocs are hideously ugly no matter what color they are, I kind of love them, too. Maria can help her get them on.

So my beautiful girls were all ready for school and didn't even mind that while they were there, Jamie would be having a morning "date" with mama.

And Jamie didn't seem to mind that our date was full of doctor's appointments. One for him, and one for Charlotte and me.

We got to the medical center and he was ready to go.

We've been here a lot this winter. I think he has come in twice (once for a cold that wouldn't go away and once for his high fever that wanted to stay longer than we wanted it to). So he headed straight for the fun section.

Then the nurse called, "James!"

It's a good thing we call him both James and Jamie at home, because as soon as he heard that name, he dropped the toys, and very seriously and business-like hurried to the door.

"Hello," he said to the nurse.

Ah, I love him.

So they measured his weight and height.

(didn't crack a smile the whole time)

And then came the vision test. Ohhhh, he was hilarious. See that plus sign right above his left shoulder? Well when she pointed to that, he hesitated....he could obviously see it (he was, what, 6 inches from the poster?) but he said, "Uhm, I don't know what that sign is." Then he stopped, kinda giggled (in his Jamie way) and said, "Sign of the Cross."

Love it.

Then he had to stand much further away. First, both eyes.

Then just one.

There was a picture of a flag, and from that far away, he got a little confused. He kept calling it a cake. I totally get it....those stripes completely resemble a layer cake.

But he passed.

Then came the hearing test. This was so funny because if you tell a 4 year old to raise his hand every time he hears a beep....and then press that buzzer about 50 times...he's gonna lie. And then forget. And then remember, but forget to put his hand down.

He may not be able to hear a damn thing, because I'm pretty sure he lied about lots of the beeps. But he passed anyway.

Then off we went to the exam room.

He sat very still and answered every question the nurse had (for me). But he was very serious about it all.

And me? "3-4 servings of fruit and veggies a day? Of course. Loves 'em...."

And then we waited.

And then I caught a glimpse (more like a full on shot) of myself in the mirror. Wow.

Charlotte is huge. Or maybe that's me. I'm not sure. But I also realized that my black shirt is quite see through and seeing the Bella Band and where it stops on my tummy is not attractive. But whatev. I'm pregnant.....

And Jamie played.

And then Dr. A came in. We love him. He is so great with the kids. And Jamie, again, went from playing with his toys to immediately getting serious and sat right next to Dr. A, asked him if that was his computer, and when Dr. A said, "Yes," Jamie nodded. And that was it, until Dr. A tickled him and Jamie decided it was okay to smile.

And there was a shot.

And afterwards, Jamie was a little sad....

jamie4year-38

....but quickly got over it.

As for baby Charlotte, she is doing great. Heart rate of 148, kicking like a ninja, and my tummy is measuring 29 weeks. I have gained 6 lbs total (I'll totally take that), am 28 weeks pregnant and will start going every 2 weeks for a couple months. Ah, she will be here before we know it :)

Six pounds? SIX POUNDS?! Yeah, all my loving vibes toward you just turned very, very, VERY resentful. We've got to get you some ice cream, stat.
