This is Us

I am a 25 year old mama to 4 (yes, FOUR) babies: Maria, Jamie, Alice, and soon-to-be Charlotte. My husband Danny and I are super busy! We spend our days playing dress up, reading, "doing art," laughing, and we definitely watch our fair share of Noggin.

Valentine's Day 2011

Last year for Valentine's Day, we made little baggies full of pink, heart-shaped marshmallows. So freaking cute.

So cute, that I'm doing something very similar this year.

Except more work. Because I'm almost 7 months pregnant, sick, have 3 young children, 2 naughty dogs, and not enough things to do during the day.

This year, we are doing white chocolate-dipped Oreos, marshmallows, and sprinkles.

And if you wanted to copy us (which I totally don't care about unless you are in Maria's class and one-up me by putting 2 Oreos in the baggy, or something really special...) this is what you will need:
Oreos.

"Candy Melts." We got ours at JoAnn's because they were having a sale. But they have them at Wal-Mart, too. We got white, pink, and red. Valentine's Day colors, baby.

vdayblog-2

Valentine's Day colored (obviously) sprinkles.

vdayblog-3

Mini marshmallows. Get the cheap kind. These were like $1 at Albertson's.

vdayblog-4

Wilton Party Bags. They are the perfect size.

vdayblog-5

Cooling rack with wax paper under it. Or paper towels. Or aluminum foil. It doesn't matter.

vdayblog-6

Insanely cute children to photograph and put on the front of the card, some hearts (these were done on Microsoft Word...easy peasy), and a lot of time, because cutting out 75 of these suckers with pinking shears is a job that sucks.

vdayblog-7

Then I heated up the candy melts in the microwave for 1.5 minutes, in 30 seconds intervals (stir in between because it will get clumpy if you don't).

Hold the Oreo with training chopsticks. The monkey one works best. Because it's so cute.

Dip it....careful....swirl it around....cover it with chocolate....then put it on the cooling tray.

vdayblog-9

While it's still melty, sprinkle those adorable sprinkles on top. When you're done with a batch, stick 'em in the freezer.

vdayblog-10

Put a tiny handful of mini mallows in the bag. (A tiny amount...really).

vdayblog-11

Then to make it sparkly and fun, I put some sanding sugar in there with it. Pink, duh.

vdayblog-12

I stole this from my mom ages ago. I have no clue where she got it.

vdayblog-13

Fold the cards so they are longer on the bottom than the top.

vdayblog-15

Drop in one fully cooled Oreo. Make sure it is pointing sprinkle side out because the bottom can get a little ugly...mine stuck to the cooling tray. But it's okay.

vdayblog-16

Fold the baggy, then fold the card over the folded baggy and staple it together.

vdayblog-17

And then sit back and oooh and aaahhhh over the cuteness of them.

vdayblog-18

And the adorable children who will only be tiny once (tear...).

vdayblog-19

And then get back to work, because there are 72 more that need to be assembled.
