This is Us

I am a 25 year old mama to 4 (yes, FOUR) babies: Maria, Jamie, Alice, and soon-to-be Charlotte. My husband Danny and I are super busy! We spend our days playing dress up, reading, "doing art," laughing, and we definitely watch our fair share of Noggin.

Jamie Update

Oh and just a little update on Mr. Sick.

I thought for sure yesterday he was getting better. He woke up with a tiny fever (like, 101) and it stayed like that for most of the morning. We even ventured out to Lala's library to check out some books!

Of course, as I expected, his fever got a bit higher. By last night it was hovering around 103, but he was still acting okay. Not perfectly fine of course, but better than Tuesday or Wednesday night.

And then he fell asleep.

And at 3:30am he woke up and asked if he could crawl into our bed. Being the horrible mean mom that I am, I said no. He took it like a champ and crawled back into his floor bed. But 1/2 hour later, he crawled back up:

"Mama. Mama."

"What, Jamie? YOu need to lie down and go to sleep, please."

"Mama. My ear. My ear hurts."

Ugh. Jamie doesn't lie (really, he doesn't) and I knew he wouldn't just tell me his ear hurt like another small child might (*cough* Ria Grace) just to get into bed. So I asked him which ear hurt and he pointed to his left one. He laid by me and fell asleep, but kept touching his ear. So finally at 4:45 I decided to wake up, shower, and take him in to urgent care since Dan was home, could stay with the kids, and hardly anyone would be in the ER.

I was right, no one was there. But by the time we got there, his ear was really hurting him and he was crying (which is so sad...especially if you could see him right now. His eyes are red and droopy, his cheeks are kinda rosy, and he hasn't eaten anything since Tuesday -- 5 small saltines). He got checked out and has a horrible ear infection. The doctor said not to be surprised if his ear drum perforates because of it. Ah!

"It might bleed...."

"Uhhh...so I shouldn't freak out if his ear starts bleeding?"

"No. Don't freak out."

Good luck.

Anyway, he said it looks like "a very, very painful ear" and was surprised by how well Jamie was doing. He gave him some pain meds, put some drops in his ear (anesthetic drops...does that make sense? Maybe that's not the right word I'm using...I"m not a doctor, I don't know) and then sent us home for a rx for more pain stuff and antibiotics.

And it knocked him out.

Which he totally needed after the horrible night he had.

Anyway, cross your fingers that this does the trick, his eardrum doesn't rupture, and I don't rush him to the ER because of a little ear blood.
